My year is starting of good. I promised myself that this year it's going to be all about me. I'm starting work on Monday and i'm very exciteted. I dont know what ift feels like to work again. First i want to make changes in my life and my marriage. I always want to do things my way and never do what my husband wants. Secondly i want to first think before i do. Thirdly be the best Mom and Wife i can be. Then the most important thing is to Grow Spiritualy and Meditate on the word of God. So heres my moto First God then my family and then the church.

As I was on my way to my work place on December 7 i got there and wanted to start my daily work but i couldnt. Something inside of me was not right and i immediatly new what that was. That was God speaking to my soul telling me that i should came back to Him. I was from the begining of November up till now busy with outings and parties as you know a person can easily get carried away in a time such as the feastive season. As you now that christian people are labeled as only serving God for 10 months and the other two months goes to the world. You now the word of the Lord tells me what good it is for a man to gain the whole world but his soul suffers and my soul did suffer. That morning i had to run to the tiolet because that was the only privacy that i could have to speak to God and there and then without delay i asked God for forgiveness. I just want to say to people to be aware of the feastive season because there is so many things that will keep a people busy and that is also a plan and a tactick of the devil. So whatever you do dont forget about God. The word of the Lord also teachers us that the good that he started within us He is able to complete it so stay focus and remember the reson for the season it is Jesus Christ. My journey to Robben Isand

On Wednesday 6 December myself and some other ladies from various NGO'S went on a spiritual pilgramige to Robben Island and it was my very first time going there.As we were touring around the island we evetually came across the prison cells that was for me most sad thing to think how these people had to live, sleep and eat, and how they were mistreated and robbed from there family life and all for our democracy.I came to realize how many of us people just critize these people and call them names such as (the "k" word) and we always just want to see the bad in these people who are called blacks but i came to realize that it was because of them that i'm free today,and when i say free then its free to speak, free to education and just free to live my life.I also came to realize that before any good thing can happend to a person then something bad had to happen and also that nothing will fall in your lap without a prize to pay and these people like Mandela, Robert Subuko, Walter Sisulu and so many others where the one's who had to pay so that we can have a life of freedom. It made me to think of the life of Jesus Christ who had to pay the prize for our sins and it also cost him suffering of pain bloodshed and eventually his death and because of all of this we all were set free. So what i would love to leave our bloggers with is that we need to tell our chidren the truth about this freedom and about what the black people had to go through and also how privilage they are to be born free's. I now that we are not always mindfull of what these black people had to go through but i think that we need to, in order to keep us thankfull and i think then there will be less name callings and criticizing.I decided to stand up for them if i should hear any discrimination against them and so should all South Africa's.

It took long hours and lots of determination, but we reached the top of the list finally Table mountain was nominated as one of the Seven Wonders of Nature on the 11/11/2011. Since May,18, 2011 we the Rlabs crew worked hard to get as many votes as we could to get The mountain in the top seventh position.

It wasn’t easy but worth it after learning that we need millions of votes and that the mountain was at the bottom of the 28 finalists. The crew went out on a daily basis to get as many votes possible , our target was schools, campuses,malls and were we ever we could get a opening to let people vote. At the same time we had to give back to the community for allowing us to have them vote for table mountain.

So the people could at least leave with an email account and we could inform then how to use the internet mail facililty

Most of the people ware very eager to vote. Some days went better than other days. At times we had some internet connection issues and gmail would only allow us so sign a certain amount of people up for the day. We had to open more than one point to sign people up with emails like yahoo and webmail too.I must say hard work certainly pays off at the end of the day. One of the platforms people were also allowed to vote on was MXIT, it made our load a bit easier.

Thanks to all those schools and campuses and people at the malls who have offered their time to send their votes, we made it yipeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!

From Hopelessness to Hope full

full year at the Rlabs coming for computer lessons every Saturday morning. She is overwhelmed by the team and the way they have welcomed her into their space. Coming from a gang and drug related Township called Kalksteenfontein where children as young as eight years old are using drugs , she said her time spend at Rlabs are very precious and it had changed her life.

Prior to coming to Rlabs she spend her time just sitting at home and trying to find work. Suzanne said she never had any real friends , because where she come from people isn’t very friendly. In her neighborhood all she is expose to is drugs and violence. Here at Rlabs she has learned to communicate with people and became empowered in a great way.

In the area where Suzanne lives children as young as ten years old have to go out on a daily basis to beg for money so they can have a plate of food on the table in the evening. She says she’s forever thankful to the Rlabs for enriching her life.

These moms are the babies of technology they done their first steps to becoming techno friendly. They have also shared about their time spend here at Rlabs and how they need to get totally clued up with what cyber space has to offer. The moms are ready to take it a level up to becoming the geeky moms.

This year has been very rewarding for these moms they were taught to think out if the box and yes even to take out whats up their sleeves and applying it to their lives. They have learned to blog ,skype and even tweet , What do you know from thinking the mouse is real to navigating their way with the mouse on the laptops here at Rlabs.

On Saturday the geeky moms shared their feelings of what they have accomplished this year, Melanie one of the geeks shared about her three year old son who was born with cerebalpalsy, this was very difficult for her to come to terms with and she was in a depressive state ever she could remember. Melanie said Rlabs was the place where she found healing and could have some alone time.

Each of the geeks got a turn to share their thoughts and feelings they were full of gratitude and thanks giving towards the Rlabs team for empowering and enriching their lives with wisdom and friendship, The geeks was the moms who attended the 4.0 classes earlier this year, they will be leaving with two certificates one for mos4.0 classes and another for the advance class. The geeky moms are very excited for the graduation and cannot wait to dress up. Next year some of the geeks will become facilitators and help with the new moms coming to these classes.

This morning I took the time to read some of the blogs of my fellow Mom 2.0 students at RLabs. We've certainly shared much more than learning about computers and Social Media.. we've grown rich by listening and empathysing with each other. We also had a lot of fun and laughter in class and those chats after class were also encouraging when we felt a bit hopeless or depressed. Thanks RLabs also for all the FREEBEES and the lekker coffee , tea and the goodies to eat.. always so beautifully served and done with such great love. Thanks to the people who clean up after us.. God Bless you all. Now when we look back we can say: "Even though I don't know how to do certain things on the PC we can always turn to someone from RLabs".

Although I'm sad that we have only 2 more weeks in class I'm looking forward to the Graduation which I know will be wonderful.

On Saturday ,November5,2011 was a day of excitement and nerves when Craig Ross and Carla Ferreira did the iRanD4Hope campaign where they had to run from the foot of Table Mountain to RLabs in Bridgetown, (Athlone). Craig and Carla started running at 9:30 am. Their journey took them along the route of Kloof Street then Buitengracht and Strand Street, on the corner of Strand and Buitengracht at Mike’s Sport they took a ten minute break then proceeded towards Bridgetown.

The pressure was on for Craig as he got to Sir Lowry Road heading towards Woodstock at this point he said he felt like giving up. His body was giving him negative signals. Craig an inexperience runner who never had formal training prior to the campaign said he only had trained for four days before the Saturday of this race. His only means of training has always been soccer training and that is what made this race possible.

In his heart he knew the time to give up has not yet come ,

because this was for a good course. as he was one of the people who had to come up with some sort of strategy to get funding for a graduation towards a community program that is running at the RLabs in Bridgetown. the event was well organised with people creating a buzz via social media and escorting him as he Rand 4 Hope. Craig made it home in 2 hours and fifteen minutes running a 25km race and he did not even look tired when he arrived at the destination at Rlabs. Well done Craig !!!!!!!!

Lilian Patricia George a seventy five year old mom and grand mother is one of the oldest women attending the Rlabs

Our 75 year old mom and grand mother

academy. She learned about the academy via Monique and Rene who gave a motivational speech at their club called (University of the third age). Lilian says her interest was to know more about Skype, because her daughter is living in Canada and had been encouraging her to get herself a laptop so that they could communicate via Skype.

She said their group gets together once a month and did not know much about technology, this is when Rene and Monique was asked to come and teach the group a bit about social media. Rene shared about RLabs and their role in the community. Monique shared her testimony and they did a live demo with the group about various social media tools.

Lilian said their group then decided to join Rlabs on a Saturday morning to gain more knowledge on modern

technology. They are a group of senior folks aged from about 40 years and older.Lilian’s interests was to learn more about Skype, but instead she got more than what she bargained for. Lillian has learned about face book, twitter, blogger, wordpress, flickr,skype,youtube

Lilian says she reads through everybody’s blog posts and end up in bed at 11:30 in the evening. She was one of a few ladies who staid dedicated through out the year coming to classes here at Rlabs.

Lilian also finds the time to come for extra lessons on a Wednesday from1pm-3pm to improve in the areas she is struggling. When I look at Mrs Lilian Patricia George I’m inspired to think a woman her age can cope with learning about modern technology, she says age is not a barrier for her and her family says she is an inspiration to them.

I had a wonderful time with my elder son. I thank the Lord for the oppotunity, I came to understand him more better now. He open up his heart and share things that I thought he will never be able to share them with me. All that happen because I took time and show him that I 'm interested . Our relationship is more better now. I am feeling good that our time together was fruitfull. Is not easy to be a single mom, but I 'am greatful that I know God.

Touching Lives (Murraysburg Angels)

I am so excited. Even when we don't do anything, God is always working. I had an amazing week. I saw God in action once again. My husband has a heart to see ministries improve especially when it comes to sound. Because he is a musician sound is always on his mind. Somehow God places people in our paths that can empower us or we them. This pastor is busy in the heart of the community in a town outside of Pretoria. When my husband heard that the church did not have a P.A. System he felt led to bless the church with a sound system. The bible says how can people hear the gospel if there is no preacher, and who will go. We all need each other, whether wee like it or not. Cut a long story short we started our journey on Monday by car. Just as we arrived at 3 Sisters, my husband took ill. While in the restroom for about half an hour, an ambulance pulled up and i asked the paramedics to check on my husband. Eventually we got him out of the restroom and he was rushed to hospital to a place called Murraysburg, which i did not even know existed. He was pale and drenched to the skin. The nursing sister put it down to a bug /food poisoning. After being on a drip for a while, we left the hospital. My husband wanted to go back and immediately the scripture came to mind. You are going to the otherside. If we put our hand to the plow and we look bacck, we are not fit for the kingdom. So often we hit a bump in the road and we want to give up and i encouraged him to complete the trip. Needless to say he recovered and ended up delivering the P.A. System. What a wonderful feeling, seeing the joy on their faces and hearing the praise to God for answering there prayers. It's so good to know that the surrounding families will now hear the good news of the gospel. W serve an awesome God. Always be willing to be a vessel. We are blessed to be a blessing. Thanks to the paramedics (I call them my angels) that went out of there way and thanks to God for using us in a small way. Signing out Cece

Mix thoroughly
.Roll chicken in flour, salt & pepper and fry in oil.
.Arrange in oven dish
Pour chutney mix over chicken.
cover with foil and bake 1hr.
Turn at least once.
Remove foil and bake uncovered for 10min.

Morning all! Our 3rd last week left at RLabs, this has been an amazing and exciting year with RLabs, learning all the time new things about social media. Yes we came to learn and be updated with whats happening around us, but i guess it's all about the people we meet every week. The fact that we as ladies can get together on a saturday morning, empowering one another in any way we can and to be of support aswell was and still is truly amazing. For me personally this was a nice break from your daily routine and family as one can become so occupied that you actually forget about yourself. Saturday mornings with RLabs is ME time! and I'm loving it! Thank You RLabs! You are truly an Investor In People! Keep doing the what you do Best!

Meeting new friends

The good thing that happened at R.Labs for me was meeting new friends. It changed my persona towards people. The best thing here is how we can share our problems and relate with each other. Not only are we all from different back grounds and denominations we all serve one God. The other beauty about this class is you get to know a lot about the outside world. The people at R.Labs are very friendly and helpful.

2011 was my wonderful year at RLabs. Wow, amazing how every week was a different learning curve. Never a dull or boring moment at class, therefore it was always exciting to come to class on Saturdays. The RLabs staff also makes the classrooms different ‘cos they always love to surprise students. At first we learnt to open e-mail accounts. Thereafter we went onto Facebook and that is a whole new world of learning.. here we learn to Chat, create and engage with others. We went onto Twitter and also learnt to link from Facebook to Twitter. We did HootSuite, Blogger, Maps, Google, Skye, Picasa Videos, WordPress, Flickr and learnt so much more. We also learnt to be careful of Social network gangsterism so that we could safeguard our sites. Sadly This class is coming to an end but I’m definitely much richer for the knowledge and the experience. I’m also more confident in using my laptop. We were taught how to use our cell phones to go on to the Internet.. this is great ‘cos now one doesn’t have to open the PC all the time. Last week we followed Craig Ross on his run from Table Mountain to raise funds.. He did a great. Thanks RLabs for a wonderful job well done from a grateful Mom 2.0.

My Experience

Good Morning everybody
Trust that you are all well and had a uneventful week. My week was not too good as I remembered my daughter Tanya who was murdered 11 years ago on the 9th November and her young and beautiful life snuffed out at the age 29 I know that many would say that it is 11 years get over it but only a parent who had lost a child would know that the pain and the loss would continue to remain. She was my only biological child and it was like a part of me that died that day as well. But in spite of my experience God has been my refuge and my strength and if it had not been for my faith and the prayers of family and friends which I thank God for I would probably have been in Falkenberg but God.
Tanya had three sons which I immediately had to take care of a five week old baby and a six and nine year old so at 55 my husband and I had to start a new family all over again.
I must confess it has not been easy but then God would never put you on a path and not give you the right shoes to walk that path. My only regret is that I cannot be a granny that has the privilege to spoil her grand children. So as children they have been deprived of that right. I have forgiven her perpetrators and have left them entirely in God's hands and pray for the salvation of their souls.
So at 65 I am called Mommy by my grandson Jude who was five weeks at his mothers death. I don't like him calling me Mommy but he insist and I have gotten use to it by now.
It has not been easy for us to rear teenage boys as the children are very different to the teens in my time and I of cause am still of the old school and have a lot of adapting to do in my mindset and also have to learn to change with the times that we are living in.
If there are anybody who have lost children do not be ashamed to grieve and do not let anybody tell you that it is time. But the secret of grieving is not to stand still and grieve but to continue to go forward and to reach out and help especially in your community and try and make a difference in the lives of others.

Hi! I'm having a great time at Rlabs. We done a lot of different things on our PC and mobiles. More ladies must come and get with it. I'm also doing jewelry with swarovsky crystals, shell pearls, fresh water pearls, svech beads. I used to dress dolls in culture wear and dolls cloths, but I dont have time to do it. Because I'm so busy with Shzen. It is a great product, If you want to read about the product you will find it on facebook. Next month will be Rlabs graduation, I can't wait I'm soo excited.

I am very excited about Table Mountain being one of the Seven Wonders of Nature. Table Mountain is an awesome Mountain, and there are always different things to see when one drive around Cape Town. Table Mountain at times will have a soft cloud covering it and it is called a table cloth on the Mountain. To me the best view to see Table Mountain is from Blouberg Beach where the sea seems to meet up with the Mountain. There are times when the Cloud can be over the whole Mountain and then one can at times only see the tip protruding. Once when we drove from Camps Bay to Cape Town there was Cloud on the Mountain and it seems that the Cloud was following us all around Cape Town - it was really a beautiful sight - the more we went around the different roads it seemed as if the Cloud was coming lower down the Mountain into the road. My husband and myself were amazed at the sight - it seemed as if the Cloud was floating down unto the road.

I personally feel that RLabs played a huge part in getting Table Mountain voted into being one of the Seven Wonders of Nature. They really went out of their way to get people signed up and vote - it seemed nothing was too much for them. The tremendous energy of the youth is really worth admiring. They are fantastic people and they can only go from strength of strength. Best of luck with all your future projects. God bless you.

I've learned so many things that is new and over came so many things so far. I am just following the Lord plan for me. I am so excited because if the Lord can put this opportunity on my path what does He still have up his sleeve. The people at Rlabs is so wonderful they have patience. They offer up there Saturdays to teach a group of woman of the community of all race. They have introduced use to social media world something I knew nothing of I mean I have my own personal blogg and I contribute to Mom2.0. I've rekindled my friendship with a best friend on high school. We lost contact for about 7 years surprisingly our husbands get along so we often have get together. When we get together on Saturdays we have a blast sharing how our week was. When sometimes even cry and then we encourage one another. So the big question is What am I going to do on Saturdays morning once this class end.

This past week has been a great , I enjoyed myself with Monique and Velencia from Rlabs Jozi. I accompanied them to a conference not knowing what to expect. I went with no knowledge of what conferences was all about. Thanks to Monique and Rlabs I now know what it is all about.I was so excited when Monique approached me and ask me to join her, I never thought in my wildest dreams that I be part of something so big and exciting.

The whole conference thing was at first very confusing to me . I swallowed my pride and asked her about everything I didnt understand,and she exlpained it to me in detail. I admire Monique for all her hard work as she help others.She has helped me to where I am today motivating me alot.Im grateful for what Rlabs has done in my life they are the best.I didnt have a phone when I started here at Rlabs but I have been blessed with one from a lady from Rlabs Jozi ,Velencia, so as from this day on I will be blogging,tweeting,,you name it all for the love of Social Media Rlabs you rock.

I did not know how to send a email,how to go into face book,twitter and you name it. What i came to learn here that how important it is to know and how to use the media tools.Not only what i came to learn but our team spirit as group.The love ,peace,sharing,caring and most of all the Respect.It was very rocky at first and still a few tools a stuck with but trust God on it. The Worth of Life

All things works out for the good of those who loves the Lord and are called by His name. I can only draw strength from where I am finding myself as I absorb from the word that is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. God has placed wonderful people in my life of whom I really look up to and appreciate. I love where I'm finding myself at this stage of my life and all glory goes to the one who made it possible. My year started of well and the reason for me finding myself in this space is a story on its own of which I will share on a different blog. I really find value in life and besides gathering with the saints a Saturday is one of the days I look forward to. I have learnt much and know I have not yet arrived in equipping myself with knowledge of the PC. I know I do not have to brief much about what I have equip myself with so far cause what I've achieved one can only read about. I honour God for one of the doors He has opened for me and I know with Him on my side I can achieve much. My best time of my life.I state gowing to rlabs and it maid a big differnce in my life.I started social media classes at RLabs the begining of the year.I was taught the following:gmail,facebook,blogger,twitter and wordpress.I also went from a mom4 to a geek.Being in this class allowed me to make new friends that I will have for life.Every week we come together as ladies to learn new things and to connect with one another. TO GOD BE THE GLORY

Hi to all the ladies who have been part my life for the last year. We've almost reach the end of our time together, and I must say a part of me is feeling sad or should I say broken. Its hard to believe that we're about to go our separate ways, but not forgetting that we've been taught all of these tools to stay connected through Social Media.

It has indeed been a blessed year for all of us. We came in as strangers all from different backgrounds. We got to know each other in such a way that we became a little family. We've cried, laugh, shared intimate feelings and should I also say we had lots and lots of fun together. Thanks for all the words of encouragement, and thank you that we could trust each other with our most intimate feelings fears, desires.hopes and dreams I have learned so much from all of you guys young and old. I can surely say that my life has changed as from the day I stepped foot into Rlabs.I can say now that I am rich in wisdom and knowledge and most of all in Love. We now have to take the baton that has been given to us, and pass it on to others whom we see has also a need.

To the team at Rlabs, thank you so much for all your time, patients and kindness. You guys never complained, you always came to class with smiles on your faces, even if you had a bad day or night before. You have really given us hope for our future. May all of your desires and dreams for your future endeavours be successful. You stand true to your name.

I pray that Rlabs will go from strength to strength.May the blessings and the favour of the Lord be upon all involved at Rlabs.

Why does life seem so unfair?,some people ask.I realise that we live in a real world ,where real things happen to real people.
Poverty is real,crime is real,ill health is real and so is death.Three weeks ago a close friend of mine's son passed away.

Chad was a 26 year old young man who went with a few friends to celebrate their becoming permanent at Woolworths.Later in the day one of the friends went for a swim and got into difficulty.Chad went in to help her.unfortunately Chad drowned.Oh the devastation we felt.And the pain seemed to be physical.There was a awful taste in my mouth.Mixed emotions followed.I was numb for a while.I then realised that I have to pull myself together.My thoughts shifted to my friend Fiona and her family.

I realised we have to be strong for the family.On our arrival at the Langenhoven home,we were greeted with sadness to the maximum(the only way to describe it).What to say and what to do?What do we do with this emotions?Immediately the word of God hit me,mourn with those who mourn.We showed the family how this has affected us,showed them how vulnerable and weak we were.We cried with them as they cried.

Now three weeks has passed.We mourned with the family,supported the family.We see that the grieving process is starting with the family.We choose to be there with this family through this difficult time.

I have also learnt that it is'nt what you say to people who mourn but just you being there.words you spoke will be forgotten but people will remember that you were there.

I trust that if you are going through a difficult time that this will help you.

Family time is very important to the Jedaar family. We love spending our free time together. When we have family time ,we would play games like 30 seconds, monopoly,cards, chess. It is lots of fun. We sometimes takes drives along the beach road or just go for a movie together.

We are very close-knit family.We have our family night on a Tuesday evening, where we chat around what happened during the day. Each would get a chance to say what happened during the day, and then each one would give their opinion. We would support each other if the one had a bad day or just experience something very positive. We love each other and stand by each other.

It is very important for families to spend time together. In this way we get to know each others weaknesses and strengths. We can also learn from each other. I learn a lot from children. The most important person that always needs to present is the father figure. I am pleased to say that my husband is a father to our three girls. It's really blessing to have him present in their lives. My heart goes out to all those who don't have a father present in their lives.

The reality is that some families are together most of the time, but they don't spend quality time together. Spending time together in front of the tv,eating out is not really spending time together. Communication and interacting with each is other is priceless.

I am glad that we could set aside a day in the week to really have quality family time together.

Today I fee so honoured to be sitting here at Rlabs and doing some cool things on the PC, I don't know why I feel like this today, the part few weeks has been the greatest weeks ever I am enjoying myself a lot here at Rlabs,we have been going out doing the Vote for Table Mountain and it has been a success so far we have moved from number 28 to being number 8.

We can still make it to become the New7wondes of Nature we just need to boost that votes its a wonder mountain I must say like if you are facing or going through any problems you can just take a hike on the mountain and clear you mind of everything you facing or going through and that is why I admire and love our mountain so much.

I am enjoying this time in my life,I am learning such a great deal and it makes me feel worthy.I can now proudly say that I am a Geeky Mom and I hope that what I am learning here at Rlabs will be of great use to me in the future.I am also busy doing my learners,I know I will pass that,but I am so very nervous to do the driving part.I also plan to study next year so I have enough to keep me busy.So Im having a busy happy time.

Its the 10/10/2011 and this was the day that the seniors at the Impact centre celebrated Spring time. It was quite a buzz this morning, while all 6 groups were preparing for the event. Every body was excited, because alot of planning went into celebrating springtime.

All the groups had to come up with a name or should I say a theme for their table as well as a dress- code and a song. They we placed in groups of six with 8-10 in it. Each group had to decorate their table according to their name. We had the Ha wain group who looked like hula girls. We had the Pink group all of whom were dressed up in pink & white and so were their table. Then we had the Parliament group complete dressed up like MP's with a speaker nogal. The Oscar group were dressed up with table and all in gold and black. The Springtime group were dressed-up like spring all fresh and bright. And last but not least there was the Divas dressed in feathers and black with high stilettos. every thin match on the table even the food looked the part on the tables.

The winner of the best table was the Hawain group

The winner of the Best dress was the Divas.

And the best song was won by the Pink group

The best part was when the Parliament group sang the National Anthem and every one joined in with their right hand firmly pressed on their chest. It was the best sight ever. That is what made the day special, every one standing together as one in love and unity

Thanks to the impact ladies who made this day special for the elderly. I am sure that a lot of time and effort was spend in planning today's event.

I have decided to post a video done by Lance and I, it was a challenge for me to attend this class because of all the technical things I had to learn, but at the end it was worth our time and commitment. In class the first thing we had to was come up with a concept. Then we had to do a story board this is were we do our drawing and write about the movie that we were to shoot. When the class started there were about 16 students attending the video editing class, there was four groups of four people in a group as the weeks went on some of the students dropped out and we ended up being only two groups. and at the end the only people left in class was Lance and I. Women needs to be carefull with who they gets involve with what is important when meeting someone is to first check the person out his history which is very important. I had a cousin who did get married to a guy who already was married and she only find it out the day when she came from her honeymoon and its a very sad thing because it can destroy a persons entire life in a way where you wont ever trust someone women be carefull and watch out who you are getting involve with.

Thinking out of the box : u can do many things with simple things and then question yourself is it the correct thing to do let it be a solution to something worthwhile for yourself record the ideas and choose the one that will work for you dont draw back. To spend quality time with youself is very relaxing and ideas will start to form and write it down be inspired by it and by the ideas of others. I always use to think how did that person come up with idea like that why could'nt I come up with ideas like that, but be inspired by it.

On arriving at our class last week, we found ourselves in darkness. We were not sure what we were going to do because everything goes around computers. We proceeded to do something different, and the project was about "thinking out of the box". Our thinking has been influenced so much by the Greeks and it was so good to hear more about application, which is the Jewish way of thinking. We were given a bag of goodies to have a look at and see what we could do with it other than the norm. It was so interesting to see what people came up with. We have been so conditioned to the fast world we living in as most things just happen with the push of a button that we tend to become lazy. I've personally applied some of the pointers we we given last week. I took time out for myself. After leaving the class on a Saturday I normally go home and get into the swing of things, like cooking for the family. My husband thought out of the box, instead of seeing me cook a meal, he took me for a drive, and a run on the beach with the dog which was so refreshing. One would swear he was in the class with us. I've started to journal as well. It's amazing how different I felt after writing down my feelings. We as woman are so busy doing so much that we don't always express ourselves and end up bottling up our feelings. So thanks for encouraging me to do what I often did when the kids were much younger.

Last week RLabs had no electricity so we had a session with Rene thinking out of the box. It was a great session. we had to pick 6 objects and had to find other functions other that the purpose of the object was normally used for it`s amazing what the ladies came up with. few of the things Rene spoke about was like she was just speaking to me alone I don't know how every one else felt but it was a good experience.

Spring is the most beautiful season of the year as it is the blossoming of nature. It is awesome to see the rebirth of the life of nature taking place, new beginnings. Spring also creates the atmosphere of new life. Well I love spring and i love flowers as i was born in the month of spring 13 September and I was reborn also in the same month which was 16 September, birth to new life and rebirth to a greater life. AWESOME!!!

Last week we where exposed to Rlabs team clearly and dynamically exposing our social media class to thinking out of the box. We had no electricity and to many people that could mean cancellation of our social media class. However we had a seminar on thinking out of the box! This class allowed us an opportunity to explore, thinking on ur feet, being flexible.

I enjoyed the activity we did where we where given household items and challenged to find other uses for the item, or create and design new objects with these household goods. This was alot of fun, as we where all exposed to how others think and formulate ideas about a particular item, and in this instance one of the principles of thinking out of the box was being revealed. Finding inspiration in others.

Reading my adventure

When I was a teenager books and reading was my way of escaping reality and the mundane tasks of the day.

I loved reading as it gave me a sense of adventure and my imagination could take its own course. Lately though my taste in reading has changed somewhat dramatically. I enjoy reading more christian novels as well as broadening my knowledge of life especially pertaining to my walk with God.

This walk with God is also an adventure but I don't just have to read about it, I can live it!!!!!!

This gives me hope that when I 'm going through some thing bad its not for ever it will pass, and some thing good is on the way. Winter was so cold and rainy. beaches and clouds

Days when i feel like escaping my present reality, I love looking at clouds and imagine various images that possibly would not materialze. It's a wonderful way of escaping and I feel like Alice in Wonderland. Yeh, young and youthful and all the strength in the world to face my daily challenges. And then I take my head out of the clouds and feel like i can face the day even chase Michael (14 mo) around.

The day before my mom died I had the urge to go to the beach and just sat there and let the waves wipe away the fear of loosing my mom. Strange enough my mom use to love sitting there at the beach and watch the waves. Makes me wonder if she ever felt the way I did and let the waves wash away the emotions you feeling at that time, that are trying to strangle you. I love the beach it has many healing qualities. It's also a place that reminds me of untapped potential and the amazing grace of God, infinite, because it is as wide as it is deep. Grace fathomless as the sea, grace enough for eternity, grace enough for you and me.

My first journalism experience

I really enjoyed walking the streets of Bridgetown speaking to people of the community.The first person I approached was a teenager who was very friendly and outspoken.Her name is Ashleigh she was on her way home from the shop where she purchased washing powder to do the laundry.The electricity at home was off and she had to do it at a friends home.To her it did'nt seem a big deal that the electricity was off but at the same time we spoke about Rlabs and also told her about our youth programme on a friday at the impact centre.We asked her what the youth are up to and it was sad to hear that our youth everywhere are busy with drugs&alcohol. It really came as a surprise to me that people from the community have never heard of Rlabs.Some people was very reluctant to speak but once i started speaking about social media suddenly there was a great interest.All the areas in Brigdetown was'nt affected by the power cut so most of the people i spoke to heard about Rlabs and they were very chuffed to hear the classes are free.I thank the Rlabs team for there innovation and creativity you guys ROCK!....

3rd Sept 2011.

I missed the class last week, so I missed an excursion through Bridgetown. I believe the ladies had
a fabulous and a very educational experience about the neighborhood. The thing that upset everybody
was the fact that open spaces was used as dumping grounds.I am sure that if we all keep our neighborhood
clean , all our areas will look like GARDENS.

Anniversary

Today would have been my Anniversary and My late husbands Birthday. No I'm not sad as we had a good life together and my niece was also born on our wedding day, so I have a reason to celebrate Thank God.

Interviews

On Saturday 27th August while most of the younger and fitter R-Labs students walked to the mall to do their interviewing, Rae, Gail and I remained behind and did our interviews from in front of the Impact Centre in Tarantaal Road.

1. Norman Whyte with his brother Charles make a living by collecting scrap items in their trolley and selling them. They make about R40 a day. They were on their way to collect what they could find on the "dump" in the field alongside the Impact Centre.

2.Mpo, aged 17, said that he was in matric at Bridgetown High School and was on his way to Saturday classes to improve his english marks.
Next year he will be taking a gap year so as to improve his C.V. and do research on job opportunities.

On Saturday 27 Aug in the morning we all arrived at RLabs for our computer class.But unfortunately we had a power failure. Our facilitators decided that we should all partake in a walk- about media exercise in Bridgetown in the streets surrounding RLabs.
Ienjoyed seeing the houses and meeting and talking to the residents Im happy to report that almost all the residents had made structual changes; some had beautiful gardens and enchanting murals painted on thier exterior walls;The residents informed us that they were all happy living here One resident said that they would carry her out in a wooden box

Electicity upgrades in our community

Mr Wazeer Davids works for the City of Cape Town,Electricity Department.

On Saturday,27th August 2011 our electricity was shut off because the city was doing maintenance work on the transformers.

He went on to explain that they will be maintaining some and replacing some transformers.At the time he was on his way to do maintenance on the transformer.at the Re-Able Centre in Tarentaal Road,Bridgetown.He also went on.to say that the whole area's electicity supply.this could only be donewhen there is no water around because they work with 11 000 volts.A similar upgrade will be done in the rest of the area .

A word of thanks to The City Of Cape Town for the upgrades.

The electricity was down last Saturday and we moms at rlabs took to the streets to find out how people will spend or use their time. Not many residents were stirring yet but we did our interviews.The first person who spoke to us was a gent by the name of Grant.He is a guy who started his own panelbeating business.He was not too worried about the electricity because he had a generator.
One gent was not too sure what he was going to do but I am sure there was something he found at the end of the day. Ladies were still in there gowns and refused the photos to be taken but we could still have a chat with them. It was really a very entertaining morning.

This is our environment there is big signs showing no dumping but despite our people they still go ahead and still dumping.Our kids is growing up in this environment but the people don't understand its making the children sick and it makes our place looks unhealthy .

Everyday the people do the same thing dumping their rubbish that they don't need,they don't care we they dumb it would be much easier if the community works together.

We as the community,and all the other citizens would really appreciate if they all work together we will have a healthy and clean environment on the end of the day.

The Upper section of Bridge Town Had no electricity due to upgrading. We at Rlabs then went out in the community to interview some of the residents. Our first interview was with Grant the Panel Beater in Cornflower Street whose premises are at the garage . He had a very quiet morning as he said that business is very slow, probably a good sign as that means there are not many accidents. His business is very slack at the moment and is battling to make ends meet. Ironically while we were talking to him a car pulled up at the garage with such speed and went into the wall.That I am sure must have been an answer to prayers another job for him.
We then proceeded to Kalkoen Weg where we asked various people about their activities for the day as seeing there were no electricity. It was good to see the children riding their bicycles and playing games outside showing the life and vibrancy of the community. We were very impressed with the houses in Vink Weg. It was like walking in a quiet suburb in Newlands with big trees on either side of the street. One can see the pride and competition in that road. I really think that they should win an award for their road and thereby encouraging other residenst to be proud of their homes and environment.
We then went to the S.P.C.A and interviewed some folks there. I was amazed at the amount of people who brought their animals to from afar as Kuils River, Strandfontein etc. One can be proud of the stirling work done by our Vets and the high standard they maintain at a minimal fee. You rock SPCA.
Walking back from the SPCA it was very depressing to see a rubbish dump which really put a damper on our spirit. It is sad that the residents there would allow such filth to be dumped opposite their home.

Being an ex Bridgetownian I am very proud of our township.

Empowering the community

It was the best experience this day when we went into the community to interview people of their daily living. I was emotionaly disturbed of how people had to make their daily living working from home.
They sometimes dont have the best knowledge to uplift then out of the poverty situation they living in . Im realy proud of being part of the Rlabs academy team because they empower people not to lose hope and to always be proud of what they do and what they have achieved in life.

My Walk around Bridgetown

On Saturday 27th August 2011 due to a power failure at RLabs Academy, the Facilitators decided to take us, the Geeky Moms, on a walk through Bridgetown. From Tarentaal Road we turned into Valk Road. We walked passed a big School and was informed by one of our Colleagues, who is a resident of Bridgetown, that the School is called Bridgeville Primary School. She advised us that her daughter attended the School and that it was a very good School. She said the children were also taught Computer Lessons.
We continued our walk along Valk Road until we reached Cornflower Road. At the corner of Valk and Cornflower Roads, we came across a Petrol Filling Station. There are workshops at the petrol station. We spoke to a Mr. Grant February, the owner of Nadeen's Spray Painters, specialising in Vehicle Spray Painting, i.e. Vandal Scratches, Minor Dents, Stone Chipped Paint, Scuffed, and Colour Coded Fading Paints and Colour Matching. Grant can be contacted at 0836721328 / 0732474080. He advised that he has been in business for five years. He said in the beginning the business was flourishing but since the recession things have slowed down. He is however positive that things will improve.

Why is it when there is a sign that states no dumping the community still dumps. The air smells terrible and is not good for the environment. We as the community need to stand together and not participate in dumping. The garbage trucks do come around every week and we pay for there service so why don't we make use of it. The people in the community walk far to come dump here and they do it at night when no one sees them. So now they can't identify the culprits. There is men that come around to your house to ask for any scrap or rubbish and they charge you. So the thing is you pay them actually to take the scrap and they come here to dump it. At end of the day we just as guilty and the ones who dumps. We need to think of our children and there children because they are the future. Please lets take care of Bridgetown. looting and polluting is not the way hear what Captain Planet has to say. THE POWER IS YOURS

While out on our walk last week, we passed a field on which a lot of garbage had been dumped. The sight was very disturbing.The City has provided many places where rubbish can be off-loaded. Then there are the trucks which collect the rubbish.Therefore there is no reason for these awful blemishes in our communities .
We have to take responsibility for the way we are treating our environment. The only way forward would be to teach our younger generation a love for nature. Maybe they will be able to influence their elders.We must be good stewards of the earth in which we live.

Bridgetown

Last Saturday the electricity was off in this area where RLabs is.. but all was not lost as innovatively we were all encouraged to take a walk and really SEE the area. I took photos of the Vangate Mall and The Transportation Board tho as I was not with the crowd. I did not interview anybody. On my way to the mall I passed the Ma'roof Islamic Centre where lots of good community work is done including a Day Care for children. At the P.D.S.A [a hospital for sick animals] there was a long queue with people and their dogs that I thought were all sick but, I was told that Free food is given to animals. Because I'm scared of dogs I did not get out of my car to take photos there. As I pulled up at the Mall I realised just how many businesses are outside. As I entered there were 2 children enjoying themselves on the Stationary Toy Rides. I asked their Dad's permission to take pics., those rides are so short-lived, but kids enjoy them anyway. Because it was a few days before Eid there Mall was full of Last-minute shoppers happily spending their money.

i just got back from the movies with my eldest daughter who is turning 19teen in 2months time. We had a great time together.

I just want to emphasize on the importance to spend time individually with our children. I have 3girls ages 12,17 and 19. Each one with their own personality. Sometimes its difficult for me, because its three phases that I have to deal with daily. I have the youngest one who is in puberty stage, the middle one who is teenage stage, and then there's the young adult who is slowly but surely making her own decisions/choices in life.

At first it was very hard for me when the two was in their teenage stage, I had no idea how to handle it. As you all know, our parents were never really that open with us when we were young. They never discussed anything with us. We had to find out things for ourselves. I told myself that I won't make that mistake with my girls. As parents we decided to leave the door open for any discussion, whether it be sex, boys, friendship, managing their monies,just about anything or everything. They do sometimes try to keep things from us, but because of the relationship between us , its hard for them to keep things hidden.

The youngest one is very privileged to have too older sisters that will always have her best interest at heart. Sometimes they would be like little moms to her. How sweet is that.

I wonder how it would've been if we had a son???. I guess I can but just wonder.

I do try to go on mom and daughter dates when there is time, but would love to do it more often as possible.

The Community Review of Bridgetown

At Rlabs class on a Saturday morning we have lots of laughter and fun. There we do our social media course. Rlabs had no electricity,so we told to take to streets to do a review on the senior citizens . Off we went to something which I seldom do is to walk but I really enjoyed the walk,and will do it again. The community in Bridgetown we took on was very new to me so I didn't know what to expect. As we walked I felt very safe because the people were very friendly. The first lady I met standing at her gate was just enjoying the fresh air and sunlight, her name was Mrs Hammer and I asked her how she liked her stay in the community and she replied she had two kids and reared them all by herself. They are grown-ups today and doing well for themselves, had no problems with the neighbors, people or the area, just happy for having God in her life. She also mentioned enjoying her retirement and would like to meet up again with me. We ended up chatting about our children, church, husbands and what a great God we serve and from this to that and she enjoyed the chat we had." Yes it was good chatting to a senior citizen."

I am very thankful that God chose me to be a wife and mom. I enjoy both very much.It is hard work and I'm sure all those who are wives and moms will agree with me.

I know we all had our fair share of disappointments and struggles with both, however I know we're never alone because we have God on our side. He allows the right people to stand by us and support us when we need to talk and share our feelings.

We really need to take courage from all the elderly, like our moms and those who are still standing strong and firm in marriage. They went through hardship with their husbands as well as their children. Some of them were abused by their husbands physically, verbally, emotionally etc.... but yet they remain faithful. Some had to face abused from their children, manipulation, controlling and domineering but yet they never gave up, because they knew the real meaning of what marriage is all about as well as what it takes to be a mother.And yes they were abused, but that was only because they were emulating their mothers . They thought that it was how things were supposed to be. They didn't have the proper resources in place to support them, or better yet it was available, but because of the oppression they got from the Apartheid regime it didn't make it any easy for them. They took every bit/ inch of strength to be all that they could be and do for the sake of their family.

Today we have all the resources available to help us. We can go to any organization but the best resource is Jesus Christ who is our Lord and Savior. I trust God to be in every decision in my marriage and children' s life.
So whatever we go through in marriage and with our children , don't give up.
Enjoy being a wife and mom.

I want the same for every wife and mom....... as well as every husband and dad.........

Interview's with the local folks of Bridgetown

Yesterday the electricity was of in Bridgetown, so the Rlabs team had to improvise in keeping all the students occupied. They've decided that we should go into the community and interview some of the people in the street , as well as taking photographs of the area.

The first site we spotted was a no dumping site, but on it was so much rubbish, its like people just ignore the sign board that has been put up and it is so visible to see. This dumping site is opposite a primary school, and next to the impact centre.

My first interview was with a 10yr old, whom to my surprise gave out so much personal information about himself. It just shows that we can teach our children not to talk to strangers and inform them about all the danger in our society, but still they're so vulnerable and easily lured into so many dangerous things.

My second interview was with with a 16yr old, who also gave me information about the struggle's of the youth in Bridgetown. She told us about teenage pregnancies and breaking' s substance abuse and just basically telling us what the youth is up to week-ends .

My third interview was with a 50-60yr old born again christian by the surname of Mr Gouws. He was quite keen on talking to me. He's been living in Bridgetown for the past 58yrs wow it is a life time. The only thing that he can do is pray for those living around him. He told me that the youth especially is not that interested in hearing about God, and then he told about Jesus who could not perform any miracle in his hometown , because the people there didn't wanted to put their faith in him. He told me so it is with your family and the people that is so close to you, he was talking about the community. He gladly posed for a photo with me.

I would've love to speak to some 20-30yrs and 35-45yrs, then it I would've heard from all aged groups of life in Bridgetown, but i guess the cold wind kept most of the folk indoors

It was great reading through some of the ladies blogs and discover that the people of my generation and even the generation that is around way before me, has been going through the same kind of challenges, but all is not always lost if we take hold of opportunities and make the most of it.

As I read through the ladies blogs I discover that we have been held back terribly by lives blows, we had to give our studies up and sometimes put our lives on hold because of circumstances. Today we have the opportunity to turn all of this around and wow wee are we!Yes we are the ladies here are matriculating and others are getting the education that was never granted them. They were very busy doing reviews and they also learned how to google information on their cell phones they successfully loaded some pictures to their blogs concerning their gadget they had to review. Well done class keep up the good work!!!

I would like to thank Rlabs for this opportunity for me becoming technology wise.It makes me feel good at what I'm doing.On a Saturday morning I get up very excitedly knowing it is class. The very class I mention is Rlabs. There we women become technology equipped. There they render a service to the community ,sacrifice there time for us as women.From as early as 730.am 1.pm.All because they really love what they do,for others.On a day was confronted by the owner when am I going to join up with the ladies, and my reply was it's not for me.I have three children,all are technology wish and I did not fit in with them.So yes I could not have a conversation with them. I gave it a thought and months later joined up.To this day I am very proud of myself to say it myself. My daughter is my facilitator ,of which I am very proud of.I am now in my second semester,and yes completely chirpy about it ,and now can relate to my children and my husband of many years in this trade.At times I give myself a pat on the back when I can teach them a thing or two of new technology.This for me was a huge step,and yes am not sorry. There at Rlabs they sacrifice there time to teach women, of all walks of life.A very big thank you to Rene and Monique and the facilitators for sacrificing your time for all of us.Yes women of 20 to 72 years of age attend there and are very excited about this new technology tools we get to know.After class we chat over a cup of coffee and snacks.To this day I own a lap top and can not do without it ,it has become part of my life. December I will graduate, God willing looking forward to that time. So yes it's all worthwhile at the end of the day,thanks Rlabs,for this opportunity,well done to you guys! I find it exiting to learn new things every week. Taking my own pic was great, but i think we should have been warned so that we could have had the time to go for a quick make over. Nevertheless taking the pics without any makeover just reminded me of how far i got in life. It made me appreciate the things that i have more. It just encourages me more to go head on in life. My plan is to enjoy the ride.

It has been quite a week. I woke up on Monday morning and went to the bathroom, only to find water running down the tiles from the ceiling. I woke my husband up and after investigating, found that the hot water cylinder was busted. Fortunately we could shower in the boys section. We had to wait a couple of days to have the plumber sort out the problem But thank God no problem is to big to be solved. I'm showered and smelling good.

So, this is my first time blogging (i.e. being the author, I mean). I've always viewed, read and commented on several other blogs and am very excited to be writing my own. I've always looked forward to doing this - one of my reasons for enrolling in this course.
I'm hoping my experience would be an interesting read.

I am a "new" mother of an 18month old son, named Matthew, and I never imagined my life would change so dramatically, from the moment he was born, I thought of what's best for him, whether he's comfortable and safe, warm when it's cold, cool when it's hot and that he has healthy snacks to eat. Now I know what it means when my mom said you always think of yourself last when you become a mom.
But there is a different view that I'm very conscious of and that is that I need to look after myself first because if I am healthy and balanced my husband and my son will benefit.

Becoming a new mom has taught me the importance of looking after myself, staying healthy and being well balanced in all aspects of my life, ensuring that my children grow into strong and focused future leaders, businessmen and unique individuals.

For years it was a dream of me to further my education.Every time i looked at doing it,I looked at all the well known institutions,but the cost was like a Table Mountain:huge,fearfull(by the way i've got a massive fear of height)So i kept on dreaming for twenty odd years,but never really did anything about it.

I believe that my GOD has a huge sense of humour.I also believe that for years he's
been trying to guide me,show me in the right direction,but yaah me,will first do my own thing before i listen with an open mind to any suggestions,or thoughts that pop up in my mind.So i had to learn the hard way.Round about a year ago all hell broke loose:i lost my job(under educated),found a job but was underemployed, underpaid, etc.To cut a long story short, i was forced to look within my community to fullfill my dream.

So here i am a year later: in a computer class, got a matric certificate- everything was done in my community, and the beauty of it all, that whatever i want to study further,it's all happening in my community, at a fraction of the cost of the "well known places".So the lesson i've learn is to always first look at my home before i look somewhere else.My community has a lot to offer,i just need to look for it .

This has been a tough week for me and my fam but we made it through with Allah`s grace. I listen to the ladies in the class you think your problems are big but there are people with bigger problems than mine. It sadden me to listen to listen to the some of the other ladies but once again Allah is good.
